HousingWe still have a difficult housing situation where many rents are the same as mortgages making it very difficult for people to be able to save for a property of their own. Following the glut of new flats/apartments on the market we have seen rents become more stable rather than increase at the rapid rate we have seen in the past. Purchasing property in Guernsey costs a considerable sum of money leaving many unable to get on the property ladder. First-time purchasers are struggling to buy a flat, most of which have small, if any, amenity areas. Social problems seem inevitable if we continue to allow so many living in such crammed areas. The Housing Association are building more houses in the future which may alleviate the pressure but there is still a lot of work to do.
